For over 10 years, Athlete Assessments in Australia and the United States has successfully applied the DISC model to assess the behavioral characteristics of athletes and coaches. Based on the results, they support the development of relationships, communication, and conflict management strategies.

DISC Behavioral Styles

The DISC model is based on observable, external behavioral patterns. The four categories are:
D – Dominance,
I – Influence,
S – Steadiness, and
C – Conscientiousness.

For simplicity, these primary styles are often represented by colors: red, yellow, green, and blue.

Based on your results, you can discover how decisively you handle problems, how you relate to the people around you, how you approach pace and daily activity levels, and how important rules, details, and data are to you.

Typically, two—more rarely three—and only in exceptional cases just one style is dominant at a significant level (at least 50%). Of course, unique combinations can also occur.

Adapted Style vs. Natural Style

Natural Style: This reflects how you see yourself and shows your instinctive behavior and what motivates you. It represents your typical behavior when you can be yourself—without trying to meet expectations—or when you are in a calm, low-stress situation.

Adapted Style: This represents the behaviors you most often display in your current athletic environment to perform at your best and adapt to the situation. It may differ slightly from your natural style (usually in a few areas) and is very useful for understanding and accepting both yourself and others.
